Summer Plant Care for Tiny Treehouse Habitats

At Tiny Treehouses, we know that our unique 3D wooden puzzles add a whimsical touch to your plants, turning them into magical miniature homes. For your Tiny Treehouse to truly shine, its plant home needs to be healthy and vibrant, especially as summer arrives and temperatures rise. Just like garden elves need a happy tree, your Tiny Treehouse thrives when nestled in flourishing greenery!

Caring for houseplants in the summer involves adapting your routine to ensure they remain healthy and vibrant throughout the season. This proactive approach ensures your green oasis stays perfect for your intricate 3D puzzle creations.

Here are some top tips for managing your houseplants in the summer:

HOUSEPLANT CARE TIPS
  • Increase Watering Frequency: During warmer months, plants typically need more water due to increased evaporation and growth. Check the soil frequently, and water deeply, allowing excess to drain to prevent root rot.

  • Monitor for Direct Sunlight: While many houseplants love bright light, avoid placing them in direct, harsh sunlight during the hottest parts of the day, which can scorch leaves. Use sheer curtains or blinds to diffuse strong light, especially for sensitive species.

  • Boost Humidity Levels: High temperatures can decrease indoor humidity, impacting plant health. Increase humidity by misting plants, using a pebble tray with water, or placing a humidifier in the room. Grouping plants can also help retain moisture.

  • Fertilize Regularly: Summer is generally a period of vigorous growth for most houseplants. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer to provide essential nutrients and support healthy development, always following package instructions.

  • Prune and Deadhead: To keep your plants looking their best, prune any dead or yellowing leaves and deadhead spent flowers. This improves appearance and encourages new growth.

  • Watch for Pests: Warm weather can encourage pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. Regularly inspect your plants for infestations and treat them promptly with insecticidal soap, neem oil, or by wiping leaves.

HOUSEPLANTS AND PESTS
  • Repot If Necessary: If your plants are growing quickly and seem root-bound, consider repotting them in a larger pot with fresh potting mix. This supports better root growth and nutrient access.

  • Provide Adequate Air Circulation: Good air circulation is crucial to preventing fungal diseases and pests. Avoid crowding your plants and ensure their leaves have space to breathe; a fan can also help.

  • Acclimate Plants Before Moving Outdoors: If you plan to move houseplants outside for the summer, do so gradually. Acclimate them to increased light and wind by placing them outside for a few hours a day initially before increasing exposure.

  • Monitor Temperature Changes: Extreme heat can stress houseplants. If using air conditioning, maintain a consistent temperature and avoid placing plants too close to heating vents or drafty windows.

By giving your plants a little extra attention, they will flourish, bringing life and green beauty to your home and creating the perfect "habitat" for your Tiny Treehouse creations!

Enhance Your Tiny Treehouse Home with Magical Lighting & Display Options!

SUMMER PAVILION LIT UP

For those who want continuous light without worrying about battery life, we offer alternative lighting options available to purchase separately:

  • USB LED Lights: This popular optional upgrade allows you to plug your treehouse into a USB port, ideal if you want to light it up frequently, even as a night light. They work wonderfully further indoors, especially away from windows, and when paired with Hanging Plant Decorations or grouped on shelves. These lights are also more sustainable than disposable batteries.

  • USB Lights with Timer: Take the hassle out of lighting your Tiny Treehouse with our USB Lights with a Timer – an upgraded lighting accessory that brings effortless automation to your model. Simply plug them in, choose a timer setting (6, 9, or 12 hours), and they’ll turn on at the same time every day. No switches, no batteries – just set it once and enjoy the glow, night after night. Perfect for cozy corners, bedtime ambience, or showing off your model as a magical night light.

  • Solar Lights: Our new lighting option, launched in June 2025 by popular demand, is a greener, always-on solution. These lights collect solar energy during the day and automatically turn on at dusk, providing a magical glow without cords or effort. They are perfect for outdoor fairy gardens and Flat-Base Treehouses displayed in pots near sunny windows that receive plenty of light. Solar lights are also very sustainable and eco-friendly. You can even highlight a potted plant display by wrapping a strand around plant stems or supports, or light up your balcony or garden.

DON'T FORGET

We also have a Dual Port USB Power Adaptor that you can add to your lighting selection so you know you are good to go as soon as you get delivery and don't have to hunt down, borrow (or steal) and adaptor to get you up and running.

Moving Your Treehouses Around Your Home

As the seasons change, so too will the available light in your home, temperature and moisture levels. We thought about this when creating not just our lighting selection, but also our Tiny Treehouse display options.

Many of our Tiny Treehouses have build options, allowing you to display your creation in a variety of ways, which means depending on the season, you can easily reconfigure not just your plants, but your Tiny Treehouses too.

Display Options Include:

  • Plant Stake: Our acrylic stakes mean no worry about moisture in the soil as your Treehouse will remain elevated. Solar lights pair perfectly with Plant Stake Treehouses for a fairy-garden feel.

  • Flat-Base: Display your treehouse on any flat surface - a mantelpiece, a windowsill or a bookshelf. Just watch out for colour changes and sun damage if you leave it by a window and you live in a hot, or harsh light, climate.

  • Hanging: Enjoy multiple hanging solutions which are fabulous for your deck or any outdoor areas in summer, just be sure to bring them away from the rain or harsh sunlight.

If you want to leave your Treehouse a little exposed to the elements on a permanent basis, this is possible, but we suggest reviewing our blog post about Weatherproofing your Tiny Treehouse.
